Days Between Dates Calculator

Calculate the calendar-day distance between two dates and optionally include the end date in the count.

Days between dates

Only calendar dates without a time of day are processed.

What this tool does

This tool calculates the distance between two calendar dates.

You can choose whether the end date is excluded or included in the count.

How to use the tool

  1. Choose a start date and an end date.
  2. Enable “Include end date” when both named dates should count as part of the period.
  3. Review the total number of days, the full weeks and remaining days, and the chronological direction.
  4. Use “Swap dates” to exchange the two dates, or reset the fields.

Useful applications

  • Plan travel periods, events, bookings, and personal schedules.
  • Calculate project durations and the time remaining until a milestone.
  • Compare two dates while keeping calendar-day counting separate from times of day.

Notes and limitations

  • The calculation uses calendar dates without times, so daylight-saving changes do not distort the day result.
  • Inclusive counting adds one calendar day because the end date becomes part of the period.
  • The result counts calendar days, not business days; weekends and public holidays are not handled separately.
  • The result is not a legal deadline calculation because statutory deadlines can follow special rules.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between exclusive and inclusive counting?

Exclusive counting measures the distance between the dates. Inclusive counting adds the end date, so the period from August 1 to August 2 contains two counted days.

What happens when the end date is before the start date?

The tool shows the absolute number of days and separately indicates that the end date is before the start date.
