Gravatar Checker

Check whether Gravatar currently serves a public, all-ages avatar image for an email address. The email is hashed only in your browser.

This checks only for a public image. It cannot confirm whether a Gravatar account exists.

Your plain-text email stays in this browser. Only its locally generated SHA-256 hash is sent to petuja.tools; our server uses it to ask Gravatar and returns any image through petuja.tools.

What this tool does

The Gravatar Checker checks whether Gravatar currently serves a public, G-rated avatar image for an email address. It does not check whether an account exists or retrieve other profile data.

How to use the tool

  1. Enter an email address and select Check.
  2. Your browser trims surrounding whitespace, lowercases the address, and computes its SHA-256 hash with Web Crypto.
  3. petuja.tools sends only that hash to Gravatar and returns any validated image through its own website.

Useful applications

  • Check whether Gravatar serves a public, all-ages image for an address you control.
  • Preview a public avatar before using an email address with a service that supports Gravatar.

Notes and limitations

  • A missing image does not prove that no Gravatar account exists. The image may be unavailable, outside the requested G rating, or associated with another address.
  • The plain-text email stays in your browser. The hash is a pseudonymous identifier; petuja.tools does not save it or the image as lookup history.
  • Gravatar is a service of Automattic. See the Automattic Privacy Policy for details about its processing.

Frequently asked questions

Does a missing image mean that no Gravatar account exists?

No. This checker reports only whether Gravatar currently returns a public G-rated image for the submitted hash.
