IP address

Enter an IPv4 or IPv6 address to query its reverse DNS hostname.

What this tool does

This tool queries the reverse DNS (PTR) record of an IPv4 or IPv6 address through the server resolver.

When the address has a PTR record, the hostname published in that record is displayed.

How to use the tool

  1. Enter a valid IPv4 or IPv6 address in the input field.
  2. Run the lookup to load an available reverse DNS hostname.
  3. Review the IP address and returned PTR hostname in the result table.

Useful applications

  • Checking a published hostname for an IP address during network troubleshooting.
  • Reviewing PTR records for server documentation or mail server configuration.
  • Confirming which hostname is stored in reverse DNS for a known IP address.

Notes and limitations

  • A PTR record is optional. When none is published, the tool cannot display a hostname.
  • A reverse DNS hostname is not a complete list of websites or domains that use the same IP address.

Frequently asked questions

Can the tool list every domain on an IP address?

No. Reverse DNS can return only the published PTR record. Multiple websites or domains can use the same IP address without being discoverable from it.
