What this tool does

The image color picker reads the RGBA value of an individual source pixel from a raster image chosen locally, dropped onto the page, or pasted from the clipboard.

It presents the selected color as HEX, RGB, HSL, HSV, HWB, and CMYK, and can build saved, dominant, related, and harmony palettes.

How to use the tool

  1. Choose, drop, or paste a PNG, JPEG, WebP, GIF, BMP, or AVIF image of no more than 25 MB and 24 megapixels.
  2. Click or tap a point in the image, then use the magnifier or arrow keys when you need to select a precise source pixel.
  3. Review and copy the color formats and alpha value, or save the color to your palette.
  4. Extract dominant colors, generate related colors, compare two colors, or copy and export the saved palette as needed.

Notes and limitations

  • Image decoding, pixel analysis, and palette generation run in the browser. The image itself is not stored in browser storage; only saved palette color values are stored there.
  • Input files are limited to 25 MB and decoded images are limited to 24 megapixels. Format support also depends on the browser being able to decode the image.
  • The closest color name, dominant palette, and CMYK conversion are calculated approximations; the CMYK values do not use a printer or ICC profile. Use the decoded RGBA value when an exact pixel value matters.
  • Contrast and Delta E treat RGB components as opaque, while alpha is reported separately. The visible result of a translucent color depends on its backdrop.

Frequently asked questions

Is my image uploaded or saved?

No. This tool processes the selected image in the browser and stores only the RGBA values in the saved palette through browser storage.

How can I select a very small image detail?

Pick a nearby point, then choose a cell in the pixel magnifier or move the selection with the arrow keys. Hold Shift with an arrow key to move ten source pixels at a time.

Does the tool preserve transparency?

Yes. The selected pixel includes an alpha value, and exact duplicate detection compares the complete RGBA value.

Are dominant colors an exact count of every image pixel?

No. The dominant palette summarizes a bounded sample of visible pixels, so it is an extracted overview rather than a list of every distinct pixel value.

Can I keep colors when I load another image?

Yes. Leave the keep-palette option enabled to retain saved colors, or disable it to begin with an empty palette when the next image loads.
